dc.descriptionJohn Franklin, landscape and subject painter, studied in the Dublin Society's Schools and settled there after completion of study. He participated in the first exhibition of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1826 before moving to London and exhibiting there until 1861. He contributed illustrations to Hall's 'Ireland, its Scenery and Character', Ainsworth's 'Old St. Paul's' and others.en
