In this country, of the 11.6 million acres of agricultural land, before the war about 10 millions were under grass. While in the future the cultivated area may not sink to the 1939 level, there is no doubt that in the future, as in the past, grassland will be the main feature of our agriculture. It is not necessary to stress the importance of its efficient exploitation. Because of climatic conditions there are few countries so favourable to high output from pastures. A comparison with New Zealand is of importance because of the enormous development in that country in the production of livestock products during the 20 years before the recent war.en
