Abstract:
This thesis is a collection of three research papers on different aspects of
the economics of the family in developing countries. The aim of this thesis is
to investigate the power structures and bargaining processes between spouses
in the developing world by examining the formation of polygamous family
structures, the motivation for intra-ethnicity marriage, and the effect of laws
reinforcing jointly assigned rights to land.
