dc.description.abstract | Coeliac disease is a common inflammatory disease of the small intestine caused by an inappropriate immune response to wheat gluten and gliadin in genetically predisposed individuals. Investigation into the pathogenesis of coeliac disease reveals a complex interplay between environmental factors, genetics, the adaptive and innate immune systems, and the presence of autoantigens, in a process which has still not been fully elucidated. | |
